Spider Vein Removal Q & A

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are dilated blood vessels that appear close to the skin. They may be red or purple in color and twist and turn like a winding road. While you can get spider veins anywhere on your body, they most often appear on the face and legs.

Sun damage and your genetics may increase your risk of developing spider veins. If you spend most of your day on your feet, you may also be at greater risk of developing these tiny purple, red veins. They also tend to be more common in women than men.

What is spider vein removal?

Dr. DiPasquale uses laser treatment to remove spider veins. The energy produced by the laser causes the vein to clot while preventing any damage to the surrounding tissue. After laser treatment, your spider vein disappears slowly and naturally to improve the look of your skin.

Laser therapy for spider vein removal may not be effective for everyone. Dr. DiPasquale determines if you’re a good candidate for treatment after a consultation, thorough examination, and review of your medical history.

What can I expect from spider vein removal treatment?

Spider vein removal at LaserCosMedix is a quick procedure that usually only takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of your vessels. While most patients find the treatment tolerable, you may feel a stinging sensation as the laser energy targets your spider vein. If you’re sensitive to pain, be sure to let Dr. DiPasquale know so she can adjust her treatment plan.

There’s no downtime following spider vein removal, so you can go back to your usual day after you’ve completed treatment. You don’t even need to wear support hose.

However, Dr. DiPasquale recommends you refrain from strenuous activity and avoid hot tubs for up to 24 hours after treatment. She also recommends you use sunblock with a minimum SPF of 30 to protect your skin.

You should start to notice an improvement in your skin after three to four weeks, and you may need up to three treatments to get the best results. Dr. DiPasquale determines how many treatments are necessary for you to achieve your aesthetic goals during your initial consultation, so you know what to expect and how to prepare.
