PRP/ PRF Q & A

What is PRP?

PRP is a specialized blood product Dr. DiPasquale creates from a sample of your own blood. It’s rich in your body’s own natural healing cells, including platelets, growth factors, and other healing proteins. When used for skin treatments, the healing power of PRP stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which are the proteins that make your skin firm and flexible.

PRP was initially used by athletes as a treatment that helped them recover from their injuries faster. But it’s now being used by a number of medical professionals, including cosmetic specialists like Dr. DiPasquale because of its restorative powers.

What is PRF?

PRF is a very new cosmetic treatment considered the next step up from PRP. Like PRP, PRF is created from your own blood and contains a high concentration of white blood cells, fibrin, and even some stem cells.

After being isolated, PRF becomes a gel-like substance used to add volume to your skin for fullness and to smooth out lines and wrinkles. Because it contains stem cells, it also stimulates your body to produce collagen and other essential cells to improve the health of your skin.

What can PRP and PRF treat?

Dr. DiPasquale uses PRP and PRF to rejuvenate your skin.* She may use it to:

  • Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Improve tired-looking eyes
  • Tighten loose skin
  • Minimize skin pigmentation

Dr. DiPasquale may also recommend PRP and PRF as a treatment for acne scars.

What can I expect during PRP and PRF treatment?

PRP and PRF are a nonsurgical treatments that take about 30 minutes. After your blood has been prepared, Dr. DiPasquale injects the PRP or PRF into the targeted areas of your skin to rejuvenate your look. She can use PRP and PRF on any parts of your body, including your face, hands, and neck.

Because they’re made from your own blood, PRP and PRF are safe, and you shouldn’t experience any side effects after your injections. There’s no downtime after PRP and PRF, so you can go back to your usual activities after treatment.

With good skin practices, the effects of your PRP and PRF treatments can last as long as 18 months.
