Laser Hair Removal Q & A

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic treatment that Dr. DiPasquale uses to permanently remove unwanted hair from your body. Dr. DiPasquale uses an advanced laser system that has the ability to treat tanned- and light-colored skin.

She can remove unwanted hair from your:

  • Face
  • Arms and underarms
  • Chest and back
  • Bikini
  • Legs

Laser hair removal at LaserCosMedix is quick and doesn’t cause any damage to your surrounding skin.

How does laser hair removal work?

Lasers remove hair by emitting a beam of light that targets the pigment in your hair follicle while it’s in an active growing cycle. The light energy destroys the follicle to prevent it from growing any more hair.

Dr. DiPasquale’s laser hair removal system has the ability to adjust to the exact parameters that can disable your hair follicle. It’s also equipped with a wide beam so Dr. DiPasquale can treat large areas, such as your legs, quickly and efficiently.

What can I expect during laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal at LaserCosMedix is quick, but you may experience some discomfort described as a stinging or snapping sensation as the light energy targets your hair follicle. If you’re sensitive to pain, be sure to let Dr. DiPasquale know so she can apply a numbing agent to your skin before she starts treatment.

Your skin may be reddened immediately following treatment, but the redness should disappear within a few minutes to a few hours. There’s no downtime following laser hair removal, so you can go back to your usual activities after treatment. Dr. DiPasquale recommends you protect your treated skin from the sun by covering the area with clothing or using sunblock with a minimum SPF of 30.

How many treatments do I need?

Because hair grows in cycles, Dr. DiPasquale can’t remove all your unwanted hair in one session. You may need 5-6 treatments to get the most benefits. Dr. DiPasquale also recommends touch-up treatments as needed to help your skin stay smooth as stray hair grows in.

You should notice a reduction in hair immediately following your treatment, with continued thinning over the next two to four weeks.
