Both IPL and the 755
Alexandrite machines are used to repair or reduce the effects of sun-damaged
skin, brown spots and uneven skin tones. IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light.
It has also been used to increase collagen and improve acne scars. The 755
Alexandrite laser covers a smaller area at a time and the spectrum of light is
more direct.
IPL generates gentle
pulses of two types of energies. The diode laser energy smooths the surface of
the skin, while the combination of laser and radio-frequency penetrates to the
deeper dermis. This unique energy matrix operating at a multiple levels in the
skin allows for wonderful results.
The number of treatments needed will
depend on each individuals skin type, the area being treated and the level of
skin damage or pigment. Most patients will see significant improvement
following three to five treatments. However, bear in mind that each individual
is unique and it may take more treatments to get the desired
results.
Discomfort is minimal. Patients describe it as the feel of a
rubber band snapping on the skin. It may feel like a slight sunburn sensation
for a few days following the treatment.
Usually within approximately 20
minutes you will see a slightly darker color of the area treated. It can take
up to three weeks for the discoloration to slough off. Patients should stay
out of the sun for at least a 4 week period following treatment to avoid
irritation to the treated area. For subsequent sun exposure a sunscreen of at
least 30 SPF should always be used in order to prevent the occurrence of more
sun damage
